Teacher Spotlight

Meet Fei Xu!

DVMTA teacher Fei Xu


Fei Xu, born in Beijing, China, is a former assistant professor in Central Conservatory, China. He holds both B.M and M.M from Central Conservatory, where he later taught piano performance and keyboard literature. In China, he studied with Zhao PingQuo and Zhou QuangRen. In US, Fei has studied piano, harpsichord and organ with George Pappastavrou, John Metz, and Robert Clark at Syracuse University and Arizona State University. He has performed with Syracuse University Symphony Orchestra and Stanford String Quartet. Fei has given lectures and master classes in China and United States, and has served on the juries of many piano competitions. He has been on the faculty of International Institute for Young Musicians since 2004.

In 1996, Fei and his wife Hong Zhu established New Century Conservatory in Chandler, Arizona. Fei's students have won top prizes at state, national, and  international levels, including the Phoenix Young Artist Piano Competition, Fountain Hill Piano Competition, Phoenix Symphony Guild Young Musicians
Competition, Steinway Avanti Piano competition, MTNA National Junior Piano Competition, IIYM International Piano Competition, Stravinsky International Piano Competition, Winner of National Foundation for the Advancement of Arts, Missouri Southern International Piano Competition, Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition, New Orleans  International Piano Competition and New York International Piano Competition. Fei was awarded Outstanding Teacher of the Year by the Arizona Young Artist Committee in 2003, 2004, 2007,2009, 2011and 2013. He is a NFAA recognized teacher.

DVMTA is excited to announce that Fei and his wife Hong Zhu will be presenting at the DVMTA meeting on February 21st. We are excited to learn from their experience and we hope to see you there!
