Music Marathon - October
A marathon of music recitals held at multiple locations across the valley. In previous years, recital locations have included shopping malls, retirement communities and recital halls. Recitals begin at each location at approximately 9am and continue until approximately 5pm. Registration is $7 per student and funds raised from this event support the DVMTA Awards Fund. Each Participating student receives a ribbon.
Original Composition Festival - November
This event encourages students of all ages and all levels to use their creative musical talents. A written manuscript and video recording of the composition (as performed by the composer) are submitted at the end of October to be evaluated. Students perform their compositions at one of 4 recitals held at the end of November. All students who submit a composition receive a certificate, students participating in the recital will receive a trophy. Awards are giving to outstanding compositions. Registration for this event is $10 per student.
Cavalcade of Rhythm - February or March
DVMTA's very own piano ensemble features 20+ pianos on stage! Groups of performers range from beginner to advanced, and even teachers participate. Each piano features 2 performers playing duet arrangements. Students participating will have the opportunity to play the PRIMO and SECONDO parts of 2 different duets. Rehearsals are typically held on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday evenings during the month of February with the recital held at the end of February or early March. Registration is $7 per student and all students receive a ribbon.
Awards in Excellence - April
Awards in Excellence is the annual piano competition for students of Desert Valley Music Teachers Association teachers. The purpose of the event is to give awards for continuing music education for deserving students. Teachers may enter up to 16 students of any level. Auditions are held in mid-April, with a Winners Recital held the following weekend. Entry fees range from $10-$25 per student depending on the student's performance level. Students high school age and younger may enter, winning students may enter very 2 years.
Achievement Day - May
Achievement Day provides students the opportunity to perform and be evaluated in various areas of musical study including: theory, technique, sight reading, ear training, duets, composition (not previously entered in composition festival), composers and periods. Students may participate in Standard or Expanded Requirements, and are held to high musical standards. Students passing the Standard Requirements receive a certificate and ribbon, Students passing the Expanded Requirements receive a trophy and certificate. Registration for Standard Requirements is $5 per student, Expanded Requirement Registration is $7 per student.
